Improving every day, 1% at a time

Smey is an early bird who starts his day by running from his home near Boeung Kak to the Eden Garden area. He always sets a target in advance (such as running 10 kilometers in two hours) and improves on that each day. For example, if he set to run 10 kilometers in two hours today, he will try to reach further distances the next day or shorten the time to 1 hour and 50 minutes as his target.

His mentality applies to work as well because he always wants to improve his service and provide a better technical solutions for his colleagues in the company. To help him "feed his curiosity" and stay up to date with the tech community, he frequently goes online to learn about new technology and innovations. By doing so, he has been able to make staff at the company feel at ease during their work days with very minimal glitches and technological disruption.

"I believe self-development is about making small and consistent progress."

Smey stresses the importance of consistency, constantly reminding himself to stick to a habit by starting small and easy. Patience and discipline keep him on track to achieve his goals. It is as simple as getting up early each day to complete the running plan. At work, the strong working relationship he has built with colleagues at Urbanland and Hok Kang Architect helps him deal with problems and issues easily as well. Smey’s process of building habits is perfectly reflected in the book “Atomic Habit” by James Clear. Don’t forget to check it out.
