Achieving higher value for your line of work by empowering and trusting your team

“I succeed as a leader only when my team also succeeds. My happiness and life fulfillment at this point in my career are to help guide people to reach their best potential.”

This is Sithen’s mantra and value when it comes to her work ethics. And it is no coincidence that she has arrived at this belief. Sometime 20 years ago, in a local bank in Phnom Penh city, Sithen took up a receptionist job while still in school to help support her family.

She worked hard and got promoted to a director position in the same bank many years later. Then, she went on to take on senior management roles across many other industries ranging from retail, and petroleum to microfinance and eventually landed in real estate (Urbanland).

“I succeed as a leader only when my team also succeeds. My happiness and life fulfillment at this point in my career are to help guide people to reach their best potential.”

Having worked from the ground up, Sithen has become a brilliant communicator and can easily relate to people from different walks of life. Her humble background also makes her a compassionate leader -- listening, talking, and treating her team with respect and care. Sithen understands that to go a long way and achieve bigger goals, she needs to set small targets, trust the process and her team to get the job done.

According to her, team engagement within and across teams is one of the key ingredients to achieving big goals. By having a better understanding of one another, her team can cut down the lengthy work process, creating a friendlier atmosphere to express and share ideas.

Sithen said that a strong team can make anything possible. The quality that she is trying to build is that the team is strong enough to operate and run the show even without her presence.
