Being recognised as one of the leading young architects in the kingdom, Hok Kang, a visionary behind a number of exceptional architectural projects that received recognition and recently set a new record from Apollo Magazine – a prominent publication in the international art community by featuring in the “40 Under 40” under the theme of The Patron and Advocates.
Hok Kang has transformed the architectural and design landscape in Cambodia since establishing his first practice, HKA, in Phnom Penh in 2008. Hok and the team always carry the philosophy that putting people at the heart of everything they do to enrich people’s quality of life and create a healthy environment to achieve their aspirations.
In 2013, Hok also established Urbanland, a Cambodian company creating inspirational spaces for people to live, work and play in, with absolute attention to quality, durability, and craftsmanship. Award-winning construction projects over the past ten years, including Raintree, Embassy Residences, Embassy Central, and Treeline Urban Resort, have demonstrated Hok's compelling design philosophy, which is centered on understanding human needs to imaginatively and effectively design environments that transform the quality of life.
Hok is also known as a Co-founder of Brown Coffee, the very first Cambodian local coffee that elevates the coffee culture in town, who is also behind each and every iconic space design. Hok and the team work tirelessly to develop concepts, to bring out the connection, and to enrich the Khmer culture, nature, and heritage altogether. The recognition from Apollo Art Magazine expands on Hok’s and Urbanland's achievements and is a token of the efforts and commitment the team has come thus far. Yet, it is just the beginning of the journey. Apollo has published 40 Under 40, dedicated to the 40 most influential and promising people in the art world under the age of 40. The goal is to discover the next generation of leaders and tastemakers, whether they are artists, curators, or designers.
